Site Difficulties

For once, this wasn’t down to me being a fuckwit and messing something up, but instead down to some problems with my hosting company.
Initially they lost all connectivity and everything on them disappeared completely from t’Internet, although that got fixed pretty quickly. When that all got restarted though, it appears that another user of the server cluster D4D™ is on was doing Something Naughty, which led to further outages for D4D™ and some other ones I deal with.
All should be back to normal now, but I thought I’d just post it up in case anyone cared.
I had to use DH when I first bought hosting. I soon got sick of load averages > 400 and constantly notifying their support staff my server was down.
Moved to Bluehost 18 months ago and hardly had a problem since.
Well I have to say, so far I’ve been with DreamHost for 2.5 years, and been very impressed. In that period this is the first time I’ve had a significant outage with them at all.
Maybe I’ve just been lucky, I don’t know.
Yeah – it’s very tricky. When I researched hosting, I could find one terrible war story for every genuine recommendation for every single hosting company.
I suspect you’re right – it’s a bit of a lottery as to what server you’re placed on and who you’re sharing with.
