Dumbed down
Posted: Mon 18 August, 2008 Filed under: Cynicism, Thoughts 2 Comments »Out of interest, in gymnastics when did the asymmetric bars become called the “uneven bars” ? (After all, technically they’re very even – there aren’t any lateral flaws in either bar, are there?)
Was it decided that too many people wouldn’t know what asymmetric meant?
And if that’s the case, why aren’t the parallel bars now known as the “even bars” ?
Probably when it went to China – try getting a Chinaman/woman to say ‘asymmetric’ and you’ll see why 😉
I’d have thought ‘parallel’ was much more of an issue, to be honest
