On Leaving Facebook

So yes, after my minor rant about Facebook , I decided to deactivate my account with them.

They asked why. I replied.

Facebook is one of the most unusable pieces of crap I’ve ever seen. For instance, I’ve repeatedly tried searching for school friends etc., only to be dumped back on my main profile page every time with no explanation or warning.

As such, I can’t be chuffed with it any more. The “service” sucks – and I fully expect this message to crash too.

Should be interesting to see what they say about that. (UPDATED: I should’ve added there “although I expect it’ll be absolutely fuck-all”)

Yeah, like they’re going to bother ‘saying’ anything. If it gets read (which would be lucky enough) it’ll probably just give the CS bods someone to swear about for a couple of minutes.

My main bugbear at the moment is that I can’t relate myself to alma mater without an institutional e-mail address, which as an alumnus I can’t be bothered to get (assuming I’d even be allowed one).

I deactivated mine last week and it’s been a godsend, suddenly my email is free from “You’ve beeen poked” and “You’ve been invited to…” nonsense.

And they won’t respond because you didn’t give them anything to respond to… you didn’t say you’d come back if they changed things, so why should they care? 😉

Well, yeah, I agree. I fully expect to hear absolutely fuck-all from Facebook – and in fact I’d be more amazed if they did send any response at all.

    Bunch o’ tossers…

QE – I thought they’d stopped doing that. Unless you’re trying to join the network that is. Signing up to school/uni lists is possible without an email address though.

I’d cancel except that I’ve actually managed to get in touch with some old friends I’d lost the contact details for so it would be, erm, impolitic or something to do so.

Dragon – They have plain lists? It just keeps telling me I should join networks. I’m bored of the whole thing already anyway.
