Now, I don’t know much about the game (which will come as a shock to no-one), but how come Belarus’ goal last night was allowed, when the goalkeeper was writhing round on the floor, having just ruptured his groin?
Obviously if he’d been a clumsy twat and had just fallen over, thus allowing the goal to be scored, that’s fine. But when he’s on the floor in pain, doesn’t it make sense to at least disallow a goal that takes advantage of that ?
Admittedly, it would have been more sporting for Belarus to have put the ball out of play in that situation, but there’s nothing in the rules saying you have to be sporting. The goal was a fair goal, unfortunately.
It’s like that Goalie who had narcolepsy, and kept falling asleep during matches. It wasn’t fair that the other team scored when he was fast asleep, but it was legal.
The rules don’t have much provision for slightly unsporting behaviour and besides, the England goal was miles offside…
Also, if they did disallow the goal, you would have keepers writhing on the ground all the time.
Although most sports (including football) do have loads of incidents where players have done something to help a injured member of the opposite team, instead of taking advantage of the situation.
