Belly
Posted: Thu 19 May, 2005 Filed under: Thoughts, Weirdness 5 Comments »Just a quick thought that occurred to me this morning (for reasons I can’t even begin to list, but I’m sure you’ll work them out for yourselves) and has pinged into my head on various occasions before.
Why is it that a certain type of man, particularly the ex-rugby-playing type who’ve gone a bit to seed and now have large beer bellies, insists on tucking his shirts/t-shirts into his trousers, which are belted in tight to the waist?
All it does is exaggerate the belly, and make them look huge, stupid, and frankly funny.
I can’t see why anyone would tuck a t-shirt in for any reason ever.
Ditto on the t-shirt thing, and I only tuck in a shirt if I’m wearing a tie (which is a rare occurance).
I have a theory that it goes back to when their mothers dressed them. My mother now tries to tuck my son’s t-shirts into his trousers when she gets the chane and consequently gets a dressing-down (ahem) from me for it.
Now I have a lovely mental image of belly pleats… urgh.
Actually, as an afterthought, tucked in or not, thank God they are wearing shirts at all. Summer is coming and you know how naked Mancunians like to get when the sun comes out… yikes!
