The sales pitch is that they’ve “taken half the price off, then an extra ten percent”. Now, I’m no rocket scientist, but from the price examples they give, that’s just a bag of shite. They have one piece of furniture that was £899. It’s now £299. OK, So 899/2 is £450. Less 10% ( £45) we get £405. Not £299.
Not one example actually adds up to what they say. Quite how they’ve got the ad through OFCOM is beyond me. But there we go.

Louise spotted that too. Been driving her nuts – thankfully mental arithmetic isn’t my strong point so I can live with it.
Every time I see the ad I try to work out how they arrive at the prices but it beats me too. I thought maybe it was half price less 10% of the original cost but that doesn’t work eother.
No, we’ve tried working out all the possibilities too, and none of them so far work.
The closest we’d figured was that they’re trying to say “66% off”, but most people don’t think that’s a good deal, so “half price and then 10% extra” was more understandable. It just doesn’t work.
Fuckwits.
I spotted that too – it’s so weird because they’re clearly doing themselves a disservice by claiming a smaller discount than they’re actually providing. Maybe they’re trying to compete with DFS and Linda Barking by assuming that annoying people sells sofas. Strange.
An old entry but came across it and as someone who used to work for Harveys I can tell you that you are right the prices are a bag of shite and I seem to remember the small print which said that there was at least 10% off the half price sale. Of course us in the know realise that the prices say the same for most of the year with no real extra amount off it is just the way they play with prices to stay within the law. Used to make me mad thinking there was going to be a sale only to find that “most” of the prices were the same a couple of weeks earlier.

I WENT N PAID FOR A SOFA BED ON NOV 5TH, EXPECTING IT TO BE DELIVERED B4 XMAS 2005..AND IM STILL WAITING… I SHOULD HAVE READ ALL THE REVIEWS FIRST, BUT U LIVE N LEARN, SO THEY SAY. THE SERVICE IS TERRIBLE, FOBBED OFF ON THE PHONE, LIED TO, BROKEN PROMISES, WHAT MORE CAN I SAY? IVE NEVER BEEN SO DISAPPOINTED WITH A STORE AS MUCH AS THESE, NEVER BEEN TREATED LIKE THIS WITH ANY OTHER RETAILER. I WONT BE BUYING HERE AGAIN..
Ditto what Lorraine said! I ordered a bunch of stuff from Harveys on Boxing and delivery (for which they charged GBP 35) was promised in mid Jan 2006. Is the order complete? No. We managed to get 1 of 3 items in Jan. (the cheapest item – even that was GBP 200. A second item late Feb. The the third (most expensive item) is no where to be seen! They took full payment for all the items pretty much on the day we ordered. Asked for a refund for the remaining item. Was told it would take 2 weeks, at least, for the refund process to happen. Did you see the BBC Watchdog programme this eveing featuring Harveys. Shop there at your own peril!
no i didnt see the watchdog programme jason, but we did try and get in touch with watchdog to tell them about our plight, these didnt get back to us either….is it something weve done? am i being paranoid???? what did the programme say about harveys? GOOD NEWS??? lorraine.
sorted…. went to IKEA cardiff instead. and bought a sofa bed, no problems, and cheaper.. my advice ..shop around first…
i ordered my bedroom furniture back in aug and it came tonight only 6 months later after every excuse possible.the importers have gone bust, its stuck in there depot then it went from there essex depot which is aprox 30 miles from me only to be put on a lorry to go up north where it spent christmas and new year.then after many calls they told me it would be delivered 15th jan suprise suprise after waiting in all day ,had a phone call to say the lorry had broken down ,at this point i lost the plot i eventually got it tonight they sent two young lads who where very nice but marked my wallpaper.i have been offered 25% back for the trouble but i dont hold out much hope of getting it .i will be going there tomorrow hopefully i will get it then ha .Ann x
I went like a lamb to the slaughter into the Harveys store, blistfully unaware of the Watchdog program, and purchased a corner group in late December 2006. Delivery? Approx 9 weeks which i thought wasnt too bad – if only i knew!! The 9th week came and went so i called to be advised it was just leaving Italy and would be her within the fortnight. Fortnight came and went so i called again – its just leaving Italy??? Its left Italy twice? It’ll be here the first of April – i dont think so!! So far ive lost out on the sale of my old suite, had to put off getting my flooring down but hey, good news is my table has been there for weeks!!! I called again and was told by the manager my corner group was there and ready to be delivered so i booked a day off work. Within the hour the manager called to advise – Sorry, its not your corner group but the table we have had here for weeks. I asked for the table to be delivered with the suite but it arrived on the cancelled delivery date and is still in the packaging in my hall awaiting the suite. The manager promised me i could come in on good friday and arrange a delivery date as the suite would be here on the 8th april but when i called that friday????? We will have to call the manufacturer and call u back on tuesday 10th april. Well i got that call saying my corner group is now in and they cannot specify a time until the day before. Nice to know some things never change – not!!!!!

Bought a corner group sofa. It arrived with one of the legs missing and the brackets also missing meaning the two pieces can not be attatched. Dismal customer service. Was told at one point that i would have to put both brackets and legs on myself once parts available ! very poor customer service. apathetic ,disinterested staff who have probably heard it all before. will never shop there again.
