Timpsons

The Guardian has another interesting interview, this time with the man who owns Timpsons, (the shoe and watch repair people) a company which is doing very nicely during the recession.

He comes across as someone who knows what’s important – maybe more businesses need to have people like this on their boards…

At the time of the Crewe by-election, I thought the Toff tactic was wrong. I don’t think many people have problems with a company which they perceive as being a family business.

I suspect they did benefit from a decision taken by an old acquaintance of mine, who, when he was FD of Sketchly decided to withdraw from shoe repairs because of analysis that showed high level of thefts from branches that had shoe repairs – the ex-con factor.

That have being said I took some boots to be reheeled the other week and while I was there I enquired about resoling some Doc Martens. £60 standard for DM repairs. Instead I bought a similar replacement pair for less than £50.
