Eyes and Glasses
Posted: Thu 15 November, 2007 Filed under: Domestic, Getting Organised 1 Comment »I realised recently that it’s more than three years since I last had my eyesight checked (“Have your eyes ever been checked?” “No, they’ve always been blue.” Sorry) so I’ve made an appointment to get it all checked out again. It’s not that my vision has become significantly worse or anything – far from it, in fact – but it’s one of those things where I’d rather have the regular(ish) checks done, as I’m blind as a badger anyway.
I doubt I’ll get any new glasses immediately though. Firstly I don’t really need any, but also Specsavers (who I generally stick with) haven’t got their “buy one pair, get one free/discounted” offers on at the moment, and I have no intention of forking out £400ish without getting a second pair in that deal somewhere. Additionally, the massive majority of the current frame fashion appears to be aimed at making people look like either Eric Morecambe, or one of the Two Ronnies, and that’s a style I really don’t like. I’ve seen a couple of frames that I do like (including one frame that was more Bono than Eric Morecambe, but no less scary for that) but any purchase will just have to wait ’til there’s a decent promotion on.
But at least when the promotions are good, I’ll have an up to date prescription to use.
I’d certainly recommend the services of site91.co.uk. I paid £100 for a pair of Diesel glasses that VisionExpress quoted at £300+.
The service was quick (within a week) and the glasses were A1. You need to know your PD (pupilliary distance) which is not always on your script, but it’s easy to measure with a little help from the other half.
I recommend you find a style you like in a shop first, try them on (Make sure you also get the frame size on the inside of the arm, just in case there’s more than one size) and go ahead and order over t’interweb. Savings of hundreds.
