Fiscal Status

One of the things I got for my birthday was Alvin Hall’s What Not To Buy, which was another of the books I’d been interested in reading. When all’s said and done, I know I’m bad with money – but at least I acknowledge that in myself, and I try to be aware of my limitations – so actually I do a lot of work (and have done a lot over the last year) to make sure I don’t end up chuffed up and in debt.
But actually, what I’m realising is that because of that, I’ve ended up in a bloody good position. My debt level is minimal – one credit card, and that’s it. Even the credit card is really only being used for my work-related expenses, and is interest-free at the moment. (that’s a point – must remember to check when the interest-free bit runs out!)
So in many ways actually I don’t need the stuff about how to get out of debt, which is what a lot of the information in the books is about – it’s all more concerned with how to reduce your spending, sell off assets, and get out of the sht, rather than about how to not get in the shit in the first place.
All the same, it’s interesting – and bizarrely reassuring, in that I’m not necessarily the utter fuck-up I sometimes think I am…
