World Cup

OK, just so I know, is it bad to be hoping that England get knocked out in the first round, so we don’t have to deal with all this hysteria and media bollocks all the way through June?

Nope, not bad at all – that’s what I’m hoping for. On the other hand, with England still in the World Cup, we can look forward to specified times when the streets will be deserted and we non-football lovers can skip around enjoying the peace. So, swings and roundabouts, really.

It’s the grumpy-old-man attitude, but I have to admit that I share it. I don’t like what football does to people.

    Heavily seconded.

I thoroughly agree – the media saturation (ALL media!) is tedious, and presumes that the entire nation is interested in/obsessed with football. There IS a large sector of the population who couldn’t give a toffee…Personally, I loathe the macho, aggressive and tribalistic behaviour that football supporting brings out in people, and feel there’s nothing ‘beautiful’ about the game at all. It’s troublemaking, and it won’t go away!!

I’m watching and supporting my country, couldn’t give a flying toss what they are playing, so to me it’s all worth it!

You think England getting kicked out will change anything. At least England staying in, the media is more positive and their is a vested interest.
