Prepared

Sheesh, talk about being prepared. I’ve now managed to write at least one post for every day next week – and they’re all fairly decent sized things.

As you may or may not know already, we’re off to the Lake District for a week from tomorrow, and just because I’m lovely and think so much of you all, I’ve been busy writing two weeks worth of posts this week – the ones that are already displayed, and the ones for next week.

How’s that for dedication? (or stupidity – you decide)

Continued Downage

Well, it looks like 34sp are still having intermittent problems with their service at the moment.

So, why aren’t I pissed off?

Well, primarily because as usual with 34sp, they let you know what’s going on. OK, you’ve got to know about status.34sp.com, which is on a different network entirely so even if every 34sp website is down, status is still letting you know what’s happening.

Secondly, it’s because it’s not actually their fault – this is a problem with the link from 34sp to the outside world, which is failing a lot. And they don’t yet know why. But they’ve said they’re looking into it, and for once I believe them.

And thirdly, because this is a rarity. In four years with 34sp, this is the first major unintended downtime I’ve seen. And that, for my money, is pretty good service in anyone’s book.

Developing Nicely

So, while today has in some ways been an utter bundle of shite (no changes there, then) on the stuff I’m doing for myself things are beginning to progress nicely.

I’ve managed to complete the user-registration stuff that I started figuring out yesterday, and it’s all tested and working. As you can imagine, this makes me Very Happy Indeed. In fact it means I’m two blocks through the development of the site. Yes, sure there’s plenty to still be doing, and I suspect I will break the back of it while I’m away next week, but at least this section is now up, running, and tested.

The emailing system works nicely – and I can see several other places where I can either a) put it to good use within the site plans or b) use it in entirely different sites. It’s neat, it’s fast, and it just works. And really that’s what it’s all about.

So yes, today is shaping up well, even with other shite stuff in the background.

Lent

So, today’s the first day of Lent, and we’re all supposed to give something up.

Me? I’m giving up on giving up. Seems like the best option.
