“Lyle,Why won’t this file load? It tells me I need to convert it”
“What’s the problem? Just convert it, following the instructions in the error message”
[ goes over to look ]
“It’s an Excel file, I want to open it up, and it won’t let me”
“If it’s an Excel file, why’re you trying to open it in Word?”
“Oh”
Don’t feel too bad- my mum, having only ever used computers to make Word documents, assumed that Word was the ONLY program that could open any kind of file, and it took a lot of explaining to her that there were many different types of files, and programs to open them.
