Windy Ridge

Oh God, Hound has the farts. And trust me, they’re really really bad tonight. I think I may have to leave the computer for a few minutes…

Oxford

A quiet day today with not much planned, so I ended up going over to Oxford. I haven’t been there in a while, despite growing up (well, as much as I’ve ever grown up, anyway) in the area and so on, so I figured I might as well.

It was kind of weird being back in the city, actually – a lot has changed, including the infamous Cornmarket re-paving project that ran somewhere around £4.5m over budget. Mind you, from the state of people in Oxford, I can see why the council tried to make the centre “safer” and pedestrianise it – there’s just an amazing number of fuckwits who either dither out into the road for no good reason, or the shit-for-brains cunts who walk (fucking slowly) three abreast, thus meaning faster-moving people have to go out into the road instead.

Oh, and the woman with the five kids and a double buggy, saying “I’m going to belt someone in a minute” to her mate? Got news for you, love – you’re the fucking problem, not the solution. Shift your arse, stop talking to your mate who also has a double fucking buggy, and start looking where the fuck you’re walking, you mouthy scabarse.

So, what were my feelings about the place? It was nice to go back for a quick visit – and I managed to get some new Cat boots, among other things – but Jesus, I could never live there again. Too many people, too few IQ points – kind of sad, for a place renowned for its students and colleges.

Colours 2

I’ve been doing a bit of research into the colour-switcher up at the top of the page, following on from the question I asked earlier in the week. Basically, I started wondering which colours were the most popular (although I was pretty sure that yellow, as the default, would be highest) and least popular.

At the time of writing, the results are :

Colour No of uses Percentage
Yellow 2548 94.58%
White 83 3.08%
Pink 26 0.97%
Blue 17 0.63%
Green 8 0.3%
Red 6 0.22%
Purple 6 0.22%
Total Number of Records : 2694

I’m actually quite surprised how few people use alternative colours, and also that bloody Pink comes in so highly – it’s the colour scheme that I personally loathe the most (although Red comes a close second).

I may have a bit of a twat-about with some of the colour-schemes to make them a bit less offensive, but I don’t know – haven’t decided yet. It’s a thought for the future, anyway.

Ten Years On

It really doesn’t seem like ten years today since Windows 95™® was released, does it?

Computers have changed radically in those ten years, and – in some ways – so has Windows. But still, bloody hell, ten years?

Then again, I realised last night – during a conversation where Herself discovered I can reel off all the letters on a keyboard in order without any prompting, and decided that as such I’m “irredeemably sad” – that I got my first computer 25 years ago. A cute little ZX80. Quarter of a century ago.

I’m just going to go off and have a cry now. Where’s my zimmer frame?

Forward Planning

There are days where I can be almost worryingly organised. Fortunately, they are few and far between.

Today, though, I’ve actually booked us tickets for the V festival. In 2006. Yes, tickets for a festival in a years time. How’s that for organised? In fairness it’s mainly because a) they’re selling them at ’05 prices instead of ’06, and b) because I’ll never remember in time when they go back on sale next June/July and sell out in three hours.

Of course, it could also turn out that the line-up next year is utter crap – but that’s the chances you take. Besides, I’m sure there’ll be more than enough there to keep us amused.

But all the same, dear christ, it amounts to being worryingly organised.

Vroom

Yes, the new car got picked up last night – and very nice it is, too. And just in time too, as Herself is away to Somerset this weekend to help the charity we work with. They’re doing a “holiday weekend” which should be fun.

And I get to look after Hound.

Two Years On

Blimey, looking back through the archives, it’s now two years to the day since I saw Massive Attack last. It doesn’t seem anywhere near that long – time flies when you’re having fun. Reading through the archive for August 2003, it also means it’s just over two years since the house was broken into, and two years next month when I moved in to the next house, which turned out to be my last one in Manchester.

It also means that it’s now a year since I heard from a long-term friend who I fell out with. I didn’t write much about it at the time, but may do later in the week.
