Happiness is…

Well, in this case happiness is multiple. The first part is having the new book by Richard Morgan, titled “Woken Furies. I’ve loved two of the previous three books he’s written (the only exception being Market Forces, which was OK, but I need to re-read in order to firm up my feelings about it) and this one involved a return of the major characters from Altered Carbon and Broken Angels, so I’m optimistic.

Second happiness is – sad to say – geeky. The PC I wasn’t looking forward to sorting out is now sorted. It’s not quite as bad as I thought – at least it runs Windows 95 – but it’s still pretty bad. MS Office 6, 15Mb of RAM, and an 800Mb hard disk. Older than the ark…

Now there’s garden stuff to be done, it’s sunny, and there’s lunch out in the offing.

Have a good one, one and all.

Weight Loss

One of my semi-resolutions that didn’t really get listed was the intention to lose some weight. At the start of this year I was at 21 stone (133Kg, for the metric among us) which really was too much, even for my height/frame.

So we started off on the weight-loss plan, aided and abetted by WeightWatchers, and a plan to go to the gym more. The gym’s happening, and I’m getting back into enjoying going, and there’s also the plan to buy a bike, although I’ve been whittling on about that one for a while now, so don’t hold your breath.

However, the weight hasn’t really come off the way I expected it to. Yeah, I’ve lost a stone, but that’s not really a lot, all things considered, for three month’s work. I’d wanted to lose more than that in this time. Don’t get me wrong, my body shape has changed, and I’ve lost an amount of fat, but the weight hasn’t changed as much as I’d expected hoped. I suspect that some of it has changed to muscle – which, in true Sod’s Law style, weighs more than fat, of course – or maybe I’ve just redistributed my lard a bit.

I’m not going to give up though – I still want to lose more, and there’s a few more ways I can think of to do it, but we’ll just have to see how it all works out, I suppose.

Countdown Begins

In one month’s time both West Wing Season 5 on DVD and John Connolly’s new novel “The Black Angel are released.

Not that I’m counting the days or anything. Honest.

Off

Good Friday? Bloody Brilliant Friday more like. A day off – and another one on Monday.

And even better, at the moment I even get paid for them. Can’t be bad.

In the meantime, go and look at the website for Banksy, one of the more renowned “graffiti” artists in the UK. I love a lot of his stuff, and the site is well worth looking through – especially the outdoors section.

Thought for the Weekend

Now here’s a nice concept for your minds to work on over the Easter weekend.

Why DO some men seem to have an obsession with a) not flushing away their shits, and b) blocking toilets with shedloads of bog-roll ?

And why can’t they find some form of middle-ground, where they flush the shits away without blocking the fucking crappers?

Dirty stinking rancid fuckburger CUNTS. I’m glad we’re moving offices soon – with luck we’ll be leaving behind the shitting twats. But I’d like to find out who it is before we leave, so I can hold their faces down in their own waterlogged shite.

Reorganising

I’m not going to do it with most of the site, but thanks to the joys of CSS positioning etc., I’ve now made d4d™ into a “content first” page-load.

What this means – if you’re interested – is that rather than the standard way of loading the page in order (i.e. title first, then (in this case) the colour-switcher, then navigation, then all the content, it now loads in the order content, navigation, colour-switcher, title.

Having looked at that order, I may have to do a bit more twatting about – but that’s for later.

Anyway – this change means absolutely bollock all for most of the time. However, when you look at the site through a mobile phone, or a non-standard browser, it means you get to see the important stuff first. Always a good thing.

Firefox Update

I’m sure most people will know this anyway, but it’s worth pointing out that Firefox 1.02 is now available for download here. It fixes a couple of security issues and the like.
