A Valid Point
Posted: Fri 11 March, 2005 Filed under: Reviews(ish) Leave a comment »In today’s Guardian, Rupert Smith reviews a programme from BBC2 last night called “Blame the Parents”, and along the way sums up a lot of my feelings about ‘reality TV’.
Something turned them from innocent babes into teenage gremlins, and it was obvious that the parenting skills on show were somewhat lacking. But here lies the problem with Blame the Parents. This was not just about the fine-tuning of family dynamics. These weren’t naughty, unruly kids. These were people who appeared to have serious emotional, mental and behavioural problems, and to parade them on telly as if we can learn something from them while enjoying a good wallow in other people’s misery seems questionable at best. You can’t hold up an extreme as if it’s a commonplace. It’s like showing black people as muggers and crackheads, or gay men alternately shopping, shagging and taking crystal meth. If TV has gone so far into the realms of stereotyping that it’s even trashing white heterosexuals, then we’ve officially lost the plot.

Cunning Stunts
Posted: Fri 11 March, 2005 Filed under: D4D™, General, Thoughts 3 Comments »Ah ‘good’ it’s Comic Relief day (or Red Nose Day). A day where people can act like complete twunts, and all in the name of “charity”.
Bah, fuckin’ humbug.
I wrote about this a long time ago, although that was more in regard to Children in Need than to RND. But all the same, it’s the type of charity event I’m deeply anti.
So no, D4D™ won’t be going red today. (well, unless you use the red colour scheme) I did think about it, and it’d be an easy fix. If you want to do something for RND then great, go for it.
Oh, and bear in mind that in Spain it’s a national day of mourning to mark the anniversary of the train bombs there one year ago.
Naming of the Shrew
Posted: Thu 10 March, 2005 Filed under: Geeky, Resolutions 1 Comment »About a year ago, I bought the domain name Twadge.com, round about the same time I was having some fun designing mugs with the same word on. It’s not really been used since then – more as a data-space than as a website, if I’m honest.
However, one of my resolutions for ’05 was to fold up my old company and ring in the changes of lifestyle etc. by doing other stuff instead. That’s all continuing apace, and is going quite well so far.
But – and this is where life could get interesting – I’m still going to be doing website-y stuff for small clients and the like. So, should I fold up my existing company’s website as well, and go for total reinvention of website stuff as Twadge webdesign (which appeals in SO many ways – all of ’em wrong!) or keep the old company name active, but simply be me trading as that business name ?
Both ways are doable, and keeping the business name, although not as a limited company, means I don’t have to start completely from scratch.
Hmmm, decisions, decisions.

Driving On
Posted: Wed 9 March, 2005 Filed under: Resolutions 1 Comment »The driving lessons continue apace. The last two have been done in snow – two weeks ago it was more “snow showers”, but last week it was (pardon the pun) driving snow – which has been interesting, to say the least.
Tonight’s one will – hopefully – not have any snow, but is two hours instead of one. The test’s on the horizon, so this’ll be a longer one, which should be fun.

Imagine, if you will, the blogmeet to end all blogmeets. One blogosphere under a groove. A sea – nay, a veritable ocean – of “LOVE your work!” hugs, “Darling, you were ROBBED at The Bloggies!” air-kisses and “WHEN is someone going to PUBLISH you!” schmoozes, where tout le monde and their blogroll are getting royally rat-arsed on Vodka Red Bulls, and bopping around like maniacs to the sound of… WHAT, precisely?
My own suggestion would be something to just make me smile – “Voodoo Ray” by Acid Brass. Perfection…
