Co-proxamol

Interesting to see today that the painkiller co-proxamol is to be scrapped. Apparently it’s been linked with up to 400 deaths per year and a study found it was the second biggest method of drug-related suicide in the UK, accounting for almost one in five deaths.

I’ve used co-proxamol before, and I can see why it’s easy to overdose on, either intentionally or accidentally. It’s a seriously heavy gun in the world of painkillers, and while it’s sad to see something so effective be withdrawn from the market, I can understand the reasons why it’s necessary to do so.

Hi June took on board your comments ,i do have agood rapport with my Doctor ,who he himself is angry that he cant prescribe coprox ,as far as im aware thre is no Doctor allowed to prescribe coprox …only allowed in hospitals where patients can be monitored ….yes i know there is no antidote ,as being a nurse myself..i have been with patients at A&E when they have died from respiratory failure due to coprox …not accidental ..suiside i hasen to add, so you are a very lucky lady ..to have the trust &respect of your Doctor. i truly hope i have the trust and respect of my Doctor ……but thats not going to change his mind ,to handing me a prescripion Anne Tay SRN

I’m sorry you took it like that, Anne. I was trying to bring some common sense into the discussion &, your being a nurse, I expected you to know all I was saying already. Some doctors are notoriously defensive when dealing with the nursing profession as many of them are not used to being questioned by someone who knows nearly as much as they do about some things & perhaps even more about others & they feel very threatened. That is THEIR problem. We have a right to know the truth about WHY they won’t prescribe drugs for us & what the possible dangers are of the drug, then we can make an informed decision about our own lives. I’m lucky, or rather chose, a GP who respects his patients & is personally & professionally self-confident enough to know who he can safely prescribe a potentially dangerous drug to. I live alone, so there’s no risk of anyone else taking them & he knows that I, being a retired nurse, would never offer them to anyone else. So please, Anne, believe me, I am on your side. I am very put off tho’ by the belligerent & abusive attitude of some of the comments. If we are to win this battle against the people who have made this law we have to use our intelligence & show that we are as well, if not better, informed as they are. And WE can conduct ourselves with dignity too !! Friends , I hope ? best wishes, June

  4. june says:

Sorry Anne, your second comment was not on the board when I replied to your first. I just don’t understand what your GP means when he says he CAN’T prescribe coprox. for you. Of course he can, as a ‘named patient’, but he will NOT be legally covered if you or your relatives decide to sue him in the future ! How else could I be getting it on prescription ? I suggest you need to have a heart to heart with him !! Have you read jeannehambleton77s weblog. Long but VERY interesting & comprehensive & uptodate. There are lots of articles/letters/ on the internet from supporting doctors too, ref. coproxamol withdrawal, which I’m sure you have all seen. June

  5. Anne Tay says:

Thank you June …Doctors have told ,not only me but other coprox users ,they could be struck off for handing out prescriptions for coprox.and if my Doctor tells me that then i will believe him ,he my Doctor is also angry .and as you know and i know coprox is a good painkiller ,it has been around for 40 years ….but as its one of the big guns of the pain killer family …and people who are no longer stable in mind know if they take this drug to end thier life..well,there is no turning back …so because off this we no longer can have them prescribed,i know my Doctor very well .so if he says he will not prescribe or do name base, well ,me personaly will go elswhere,i will not coz him anymore agro than he is getting at this moment ,with other coprox users ….All the best June

Hi Anne Got your message through the flak, looks like you have been busy on here today. I won’t add anything to these current articles, except i think Andrea’s last comment sums it up for me. I hope you get some luck with p2u, speak to you soon. Chris

  7. Anne Tay says:

Anne looks in …looks right then left ..coast clear ? ok Hi all.Andrea have you had any luck with your order? to think thats all i wanted to say today ..and wam!! i got ambushed lol

  8. Anne Tay says:

  9. june says:

Hi everyone, If you REALLY want to change the law re. coprox., go to http://www.petitions.pm.uk & ‘view petitions’ then ‘health,well-being & care’, scroll down to 300- & sign P.E.G.Cope’s petition “To allow patients to indemnify their GPs to continue to prescribe you co-proxamol” & sign it, please ! Otherwise, you’ll surely find the price will go up & up to you, & you don’t know what rubbish may be in the tabs from abroad, even ingredients which may be harmful. If you sign it,you may also help folks who can’t afford to buy from abroad. Closing date April 11th. best wishes June

  10. Andrea says:

Hi Anne 🙂 Wow, that was a quick order this time !! I ordered on Thurday 20th and despite being Easter weekend with no post, I received my order on Tuesday 25th !! couldn’t believe it. Order still came from Cyprus though, post marked 21st but previously all my ther orders have taken exactly 8 days. A bit strange. I too am in Scotland so that can’t be the reason yours seem to take ages ? Yours take an awful long time 🙁

  11. Anne Tay says:

Hi Andrea . that WAS quick ,the thing is i dont stay in a rural part of Scotland..so its not as if Post has to do a Helicopter drop lol..hope you are well ..

  12. june greaves says:

Sorry folks, I mistyped the website for the petition to the P.M. It is go to ‘Intro. to e-petitions’, then ‘view petitions’, then ‘health, well-being & care’ then c.201-250, PEG Cope. PLEASE SIGN IT if you want to change the law – BEFORE 11th April !! June

  13. Anne Tay says:

OK .June, petition signed but with only 43 signatures, mmm …well

  14. june greaves says:

Yes Anne, it’s disappointing, tho’ a few more have added. Sadly, I think many of the folk involved are probably not ‘on line’, so we have to do all we can to spread the word, keep the debate going, contact your MP, mine’s written to the Health Minister expressing his concern. If the petition doesn’t attract at least 200 names, it won’t even get to the PM, I’m afraid. We have to keep the pressure up, try & persuade your friends to sign up etc. Don’t give up hope ! June

has any body had any side effects or problems with distalgesic tablets from cyprus 2 april 2008

  16. Chris. says:

Hello Peter, I have had a few orders from Cyprus, but i have not noticed any kind of problem with the
    Distalgesic, side effects?

  17. Anne Tay says:

hi Chris ,everything ok with you ?

  18. Chris. says:

Hi Anne, that’s nice of you to ask, i am ok thanks hope you are too. Not much happening on here at the moment, don’t know about you but will probably stop looking in so often after this month, always
happy to answer you though. I have just ordered from p2u (5th April) and i know it won’t be much help to you, but i will let you know anyway if del is any different. I expect though it will still
    come from Cyprus, Chris.

  19. andrea says:

    Hi Folks 🙂
Received another order from P2U today after a slightly longer wait that usual, 10 days this time instead of the usual 7 or 8 days. The thing that drew my attention was, normally they have been stamped Limassol but this time the stamp was different and it was postmarked ‘Girne’ which I beleive is North Cyprus. Although the tablets are still Phadisco and the box is the same, the patient information leaflet is different. Also, the envelope had 1.40’s worth of British stamps on the envelope too which I found strange. Anyway………………………..probably useless information 🙂 just wanted to keep you updated. Also, Anne, I thought of you having to wait longer than us and hope you don’t have to wait even longer still ! Hope you are all well 🙂 Take care

  20. Anne Tay says:

Hi Andrea, glad to hear you got your order..just had a look at my envelope ,it came from Limassol…on saying that ,mine arrived 26th march….may have changed ….

  21. Chris. says:

Hi Anne, Received my order from p2u today, 6 days from order date. Post detail is stamped Limassol. I can’t think of any reason why it takes so much longer to reach you. If i move to Scotland I’ll Know to order early.

  22. Anne Tay says:

HI Chris& Andrea..lol and i said before its not as if the post have to do a helicop drop lol …well we shall see, when i send for my next order …thank goodness i only take 3or 4 a day ..

  23. hi i have been reading your comments about pharma2u i made an order for diazepam these to came from limissol cyprus seemed to be ok wondered if anybody had diazepam/valium from p2u would like to know

  24. Anne Tay says:

  25. marko says:

hi anne you still not having much luck regarding the co proxamol shipment?

  26. Anne Tay says:

Hi Marco ,how are you ?…well we shall see, when i send away for my next order, everyone else seems to have no probs …..only me lol.you getting your order ok?…..

  27. marko says:

hello anne sorry for delay ive been now told that they will be offically sent from the uk as from now on so our next orders should arrive within 2 days bout time really so at least there is less risks off delay i hope your postal delay gets sorted soon all the best

  28. E SANDERSON says:

Read all the comments on the board, tried them all, got nowhere. How can I help? Where can I get Co-Prox from?

  29. Chris. says:

If you use this web address, http://www.pharma2u.com you should have no problem obtaining Distalgesic. I have used this pharma many times with no problem. Delivery should only take a few days, unless you
live in Scotland where it can longer. (ref to Anne )

  30. Anne Tay says:

Yes well yet again Chris …sent for them 1stMay ..nothing ..well only another 16 days to go lol

  31. Chris. says:

Hi Anne, Are you sure you have not upset someone at p2u, the race is on now i have just ordered this evening. Did you have to pay more on your order? my cost today was £40. They have introduced a delivery charge now, I’m not best pleased about that, i will be using offshore more now while it is
    approx £7 cheaper per 100.

  32. Anne Tay says:

Hi Chris ..no i never paid anymore ……..well my order comes
by pigeon post ..so why would they want to charge me ..lol

  33. Anne Tay says:

Chris ,are the coprox the same as the ones from Pharma ?

  34. Anne Tay says:

Chris ..what name does coprox go under ,with offshore ? cant seem to find it …

  35. Chris. says:

Anne, The item can be found on their Home page under pain killers, it goes under the name Darvocet then in brackets (distalgesic). The item comes as Darvin and has coprox stamped on the foil. It is exactly the same ingredients as Distalgesic. Del usually 8 to 21 days mine, usually 9 so possibly not much worse than you get from p2u. If you don’t receive it by 21 days they will reship for free which has happened to me twice in approx 20 months, use regular post.

  36. Anne Tay says:

Well Chris ,the pigeon has landed ,not bad ,as they came from Cyprus ….thanks for the information Chris …

  37. Chris. says:

Hi Anne, I have received my order from p2u today, longest time so far 11days. Placed an order same day to Offshore received it last week after 6days the quickest time so far. The wind must have been behind this pigeon.

  38. Anne Tay says:

Hi Chris ,did your order come from cyprus ?

  39. Chris. says:

Hi Anne, The p2u came from Cyprus, I chose regular post, perhaps should have chosen the registered post option i think they were both £5. It seems like the regular mail is slower, i will give them a miss for a while, just mainly due to price.

  40. Anne Tay says:

Hi Chris ,What one of the offshore phar do you use ?.cant seem to find one with the name Darvocet as a painkiller ..

  41. Chris. says:

If you use this web address Anne, http://www.offshore-pharma.com scroll down the front page to painkillers, there you will see Darvocet. If you follow that through you will get to darvon (Generic distalgesic) should be listed at $55 for 100.

  42. Anne Tay says:

    Thanks Chris ,found it …

  43. J.A says:

Just reading down and perhaps you should be registered on BBC.ouch to see that there are people who have got and are getting the drug you are on about.

  44. Anne Tay says:

    Hi .everyone ok ?

  45. Chris. says:

Hi Anne, You are not rid of me yet, i hope you are ok. I wrote to p2u regarding their postage add on costs, received a reply from our Jane Smith stating- they cannot survive any more without charging for postage. It has cost them thousands last year and it is the best they can do to survive with other costs increasing for them. I don’t know if all that is true, but if you have to buy from them you have to put up with it, offshore has not changed yet, the last order was 6 days only. Nice to hear from you again, i was getting a bit bored its gone very quiet on here.

  46. Mark says:

Hi all. I just wanted to say thanks to those who left a link to where we can get Co-porxamol. I too over the yaers have found them to be one of the best pain killers out there. I have just ordered 1 box from pharm2u, lets see how the delivery goes. Thanks again. Mark

  47. Stella says:

Hello to you all,i wont to tell you all to go back to your doctors and ask if you can be referred to a pain clinic.
I have just got some co-proxaml on prescription, because of the request of my pain clinic Consultant as everything they gave me just made me ill or in more pain and Co-proxamol was the only thing that gave me relief and I need lots of relief as I had a triple spinal fusion three years ago, but I am still left with a lot of pain, they said I could have co-proxamol if I agreed to take it as an unlicensed drug, so I did and I got a prescription.
I have read all your sad story’s and as a sufferer myself my heart goes out to you all, I do hope this will help some of you.
    Stella.

  48. Anne Tay says:

Hi Chris ,nice to hear from you again ,when i send away for my coprox ,i buy 2 boxes ,,then i dont pay postage well i think thats the way it works .i only take 3 per day so they last quite a while, well Mark i hope you dont live in Scotland ,they get delivered by pigeon up here lol …Hi Stella good for you ,but im afraid pain clinics and doctors up this way dont want anything to do with coprox ..best wishes hope you’re keeping better ,hear from you soon Chris no doubt we will have other things to moan about lol

  49. Anne Tay says:

Chris have you tried Destirol …ment to be coprox, cheaper £19.50..

  50. Chris. says:

Hi Anne. Not tried Destirol, but i have just seen some information regarding the prices of this item and Dista in Cyprus. It appears to be dated around 2006 but even so, the Destirol was .90p for 50off and Distalgesic £2.26p for 100. now that is upsetting, i think i need a nurse lol. P2u would be making a good profit if that is correct. Must check on their petrol prices.
