Co-proxamol

Interesting to see today that the painkiller co-proxamol is to be scrapped. Apparently it’s been linked with up to 400 deaths per year and a study found it was the second biggest method of drug-related suicide in the UK, accounting for almost one in five deaths.

I’ve used co-proxamol before, and I can see why it’s easy to overdose on, either intentionally or accidentally. It’s a seriously heavy gun in the world of painkillers, and while it’s sad to see something so effective be withdrawn from the market, I can understand the reasons why it’s necessary to do so.

    Mandy,

I think your best bet would be offshore-pharma
or 247meds, the item is listed on the front page of 247meds as Dextro.

  17. Nigel AkA Pill Popper says:

Hi Anne, not to worry about the emails,
i think i got it sorted now,
nice to see Lyle is keeping this thread open for Co Proxamol, even though there is not so many of us now posting about it.

  18. Avril says:

    Hi All,

I hope you are all managing to get pain relief.

Chris – is that 24-7.com? I can’t see anything on there. Did come across a hysterical FDA warning against a 24/7 ‘scam’.
When I tell doctors I still take Co-prox they get pretty weird too and give me dire warnings! You’d think the rest of the world knew nothing about health and only the UK was resposible about drugs – which is pretty much the reverse of how things are.

I’ve been getting mine from Offshore who have always been excellent but it’s a bit worrying to have no ‘backup’ supplier in the event of them becoming unavailable there.

I’m terrified this forum disappears as I know of no other place to talk to fellow sufferers or exchange info.

    Cheers,

    Avril

  19. Chris says:

    Hi Avril,

The address for that one is 247medicines.com.

  20. Avril says:

    Many thanks for that Chris.
I think my own email ad is on here somewhere but I’ll put it again for anyone who may want it.

the problem is, the co proxamol im getting from the chemist are not very good,

they seem to be sub standered,, i know this, because the ones i was getting from Cypres where very good, and the old ones distalgesic before they where discontinued, very good also,
i have tried various chemist around town, but all co prox the same sub standered ones, any one know where i can exchange my script for better co prox?

i have looked on line , but they want cash as well as prescription, no chance.

  23. Chris says:

    Hi Nigel,

I have sent you an e-mail. The few different makes of Co-prox that are available should all be made the same way as the brand Dista. I have not found any difference between them.

    Chris

  24. Nigel AkA Pill Popper says:

    Co-proxamol,Thanks.

  37. Matt says:

I’m new to this site, but Ive been reading all of the above messages. Lets get Coproxamol back on the agenda. Is it worthwhile setting up a Facebook page? Thanks

  38. Luan says:

hi all i managed to save loadsa co proxomol and mix it with supplies from the internet but the internet company i was getting the tablets from are now asking for a private script help!!! i have prolapsed disks, rhumatiod arthritus and fybromyalgia my GP has no idea i take coproxomol instead of the morphine which has no effect any help much app-reciated as at 36 years old i am too young to have the debilitating effects stoppping this drug would cause me to suffer!!!!

  39. Chris says:

    Luan,
Not sure what site you have been using, but Prescribe4u.org have some in stock at the moment, they have run out quite soon before.
I think they still just have an on line form to fill in.

  40. kate says:

my new practice head has just refused to proscribe co prox, before i was getting it by signing a disclaimer after 30 years, now iv’e been given co codamol its useless all the side effects and no pain relief

  41. Anna McKnight says:

I have arthritis, spondylosis, collapsed discs and pain from a fractured spine. For ten years I was on Distalgesic and could manage the pain. Ever since they were withdrawn I have been moved from one painkiller to another. None work. I can find no doctors willing to risk scripting them. I am suicidal with pain, but apparently this is acceptable, as long as I don’t overdose on Distalgesic. I am allowed to overdose on the many other painkillers available. I cannot seem to find a reliable site online and probably couldn’t afford to keep buying them anyway.

  42. pam says:

Ive had scoliosis and degeneration of the spine..Ive been taking Digesic for prob 2 years now….2 in the morning is enough to help me thru the day..Tramil and Mobic do not work…Just beem informed by my Dr that Digesic is coming off the market…the only thing that work…dont undertsand how its a suicide drug….

  43. brian says:

I’ve had enough, life is hell since coproxamol stopped, GP is useless, pain unbearable .Ive had DVT(1999) PE(2004) so on warfarin which precludes many other drugs..How many paracetomol to make sure, I don.t want to be around any more.

  44. avril says:

    Brian,
I havent been to this site for a while and just read your post. I got Distalgesic (Coproxamol) fairly recently from Prescribe4U.org and they seem to be still listing them.
Dont take a load of paracetamol – thats more likely to leave you still around but with additional health problems with liver etc.

    (Hug) Avril

  45. Chris says:

Well that is good to hear from one poster from the past on this forum. Good to see you are still out there Avril. How many others are still around, be would interesting to hear how they are getting on etc. Dg getting a bit tougher to get at the moment, including P4u, and stay clear of IC4u. They are not sending anything out at the moment.

  46. Twinkle says:

Avril..…How recently did you receive co-proxamol from P4U? They’re advertising the generic form Cobradex on their site but with everything that has happened in the last few months I don’t really know if they have them in stock or not so any info would be helpful.
    Thanks

  47. pill popper says:

    Hi chris,
im still alive, still looking fo co proxamol, no luck though,

    how are you?

yes it would be nice to hear from anne, russ, and the rest?

  48. Chris says:

Really good to hear from you pill popper, i am good at the moment thanks. I am in touch with Anne, perhaps a few more will come back here now that it has become much harder to get Co prox at a sensible price. Only 247medicines seem to offer this now, i have not bought from them yet, but i think Customs are more of an issue now.

    Chris

  49. abbe says:

help, i can’t take anything else. they all leave me feeling sick, dizzy or drugged up. i have 4 kids to look after and the pain in my knees is unbearable. i haven’t had co prox in years but by good was it good. has anyone found an alternative??

  50. abbe says:

just been to see the gp and have been really lucky to get a perscription for it. now just have to wait for it to come in. keep on the pressure and have an informed arguement. if your will to take the “risks” i think they should let more have it
