Co-proxamol
Posted: Mon 31 January, 2005 Filed under: Health 868 Comments »Interesting to see today that the painkiller co-proxamol is to be scrapped. Apparently it’s been linked with up to 400 deaths per year and a study found it was the second biggest method of drug-related suicide in the UK, accounting for almost one in five deaths.
I’ve used co-proxamol before, and I can see why it’s easy to overdose on, either intentionally or accidentally. It’s a seriously heavy gun in the world of painkillers, and while it’s sad to see something so effective be withdrawn from the market, I can understand the reasons why it’s necessary to do so.
Hi Chris and Twinkle …i also have an e-mail from them telling me my money would be refunded ….mmmm Chris have you had any correspondence from ..Jesslyn ?
I DID !!!
Hi Anne, I have not received an e-mail from Jess, i keep checking my inbox nervously waiting for bad news. It looks like to me they don’t have a good stock of this item, perhaps having problems obtaining. I am only guessing, its just a waiting game now for me. Will let you know.
She phoned me ,i thought she would have phoned you ,to let you know what she had to say …..
hi Chris i lost the first thread …typed it out again ,then the first one came back up ..
Hey Guys
I ordered Destirol last week and got a refund from Paypal today with a message saying…This item is out of stock please re-order 3rd may……..
Ugh! What a mess, huh?
I am slowly losing faith in them. 🙁
I didn’t even get an e-mail to say I would be getting a refund..I just got my money refunded.
This is all getting a bit crazy because if you go on to the site Distrol is still available to ‘Buy’ people will still keep on ordering and they will still keep refunding…..just doesn’t add up…..why didn’t they just tell us that delivery would be delayed for a few days…
I Ordered coprox on Friday and then another lot on Saturday I got both in this morning. Chris you could be lucky yet. I’m going to have to eat humble pie and email them. I’d emailed on Wed saying that if they had taken my money knowing they were going to be out of stock I was very unhappy. By that time they’d obviously already sent both items.
Hi Itsy some people are born lucky i guess …
Isty, No wonder their out of stock, it looks like you have got more than Med2u. Your right i might be lucky, will be watching for postie on Sat.
Chris people like you and me …we dont have that kind of luck ..
Could be a wind up Chris !!!
Well, posties been but no package, must be Tues then!. We do need more luck Anne.
Chris and Andrea ..is there any way i can contact you privately ..can you set up a link ,im not very technical when it comes to these things …you know .some kind of link that could be erased later ..talk about James Bond …
Oh my God…..I was worried……now I’m REALLY worried.
Anne, not very technical myself but if you do the following address without spaces, chris@ then continue with, baxtercj.fsnet.co.uk. Anyone is welcome to talk to me. If i get problems i can always set up a google e-mail a/c. Chris.
LOL at Twinkle…
[Edited by Lyle, Site Owner. Email removed – but yes, Anne, it was correct]
……message came back to me Chris…or have I made a mistake ?
Hi Anne,
It is a good idea NOT to publish the email address of anyone without splitting it up.
This is because dodgy internet scam people have computer software that hoovers up any full email address.
Unfortunately Chris may now be getting lots of viagra adverts and spam. Even worse, emails from Nigerian Generals wishing to give him millions of dollars in return for just his bank account name number and sort code :@)
News just in……
“Prescriptions for morphine have risen by more than 40% and those for tramadol by two-thirds since co-proxamol use was first reduced in anticipation of the drug’s withdrawal.
An analysis for the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, obtained by Pulse under the Freedom of Information Act, reveals prescriptions for co-proxamol plummeted from 835 million in 2004 – the year prior to legislation on its withdrawal – to 121 million in 2007.
But over the same period, opiod prescriptions overall rose by 40%. Prescriptions for morphine rose by 44%, from 757,000 in 2004 to 1,093,000 in 2007, and tramadol prescriptions increased by 61%, from 3,130,000 to 5,036,000.”

Co-proxamol was removed from the British National Formulary on 1 January last year, but the NHS Information Centre analysis shows GPs continued to prescribe co-proxamol to approximately 150,000 patients in England on a named-patient basis.
Anne…..Yeah it’s all getting a bit MI5ish isn’t it lol. Sad that such a simple drug can make or break you life. Without it my life changes completely and working for a living would just not be possible….love and hope to all

Thank you Lyle for removing that link, i did have an uneasy feeling about it being there.Chris.
My Dearest Anne Tay,
A mutual friend has suggested I contact you as I have a very interesting offer to be making.
My cousin, His Serene Excellency Robert Mugabe 2nd King of Scotland is thinking of retiring and needs to be moving some of his majesterial royal diamonds abroad. He has decided to test the market first with his wife, Her Royal First Ladyness Zitzit Mugabe’s earings. These have been independently valued by Zothebies the Zimbabwian auction house at 50,000 Pulla. This is approximately £20,000 of your Royal Kingdomness of Great Britannia Pounds. However, my cousin, his Excellency is very angry at his wife just now and he has asked me to dispatch these diamonds for the very extra specialness price of £2,000. So if you would please email me your Paypal details, I can extract the money for this once only bargain and send the diamond earings directly to you.
Your good friend, General Mugabe Mugu
P.S. I don’t have any Procoxamol medicating tabalets, but I can do you a very specialness price of Pirin tabalets for 2 Pulla each.
Posts 478/479.
Now that was hilarious.
Dear General Mugabe Mugu,
Thankyou for your kind offer, what exactly are “Pirin” tablets? Are thes a generic Zimbabwian name for Distalgesic?
My Dearest Anne Tay,
Thanking you so very much for your most fast response.
The Pirin Tablets are like Aspirin, but with their Ass wiped off. Which coincidentally is what my job is at my employer, his most Serene Excellence, Robert Mugabe, 2nd King of Scotland.
(medical quote with thanks and acknowledgement to the great Robin William’s and Birdcage).
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Andrea,
Have you seen this one yet….

Not that politically correct, but really funny.
I had never heard of Jeff Dunham, but he has over 87,000,000 hits recorded on this link so I think he must be a rising star.
At least laughter is the best medicine until we have regular coproxamol back.
Cheers,
Russ
Dear General Magabe Magu ..Thank you for your kind offer…i have already got the last KING Of SCOTLAND..our proclaimed King ,IDI AMIN,s wealth ,is he dead now ? they tell me nothing up here ,but the diamonds are tempting …so do i get the General the diamonds …must be a good age ,YES he will need the viagra ….ok its a deal …..now on to my paypal site …

Now i must go to work ..oh my wrist is aching ,must nip into a&e and get it straped up ……400 pulls eh…
Oh this site is going down hill Lyle I blame Russ ..
Just been thinking.
The guys at pharma2u seem to be doing their best to keep going in spite of the Damoclean Sword being parried by the not so chivalrous knight Breckenridge, wjh in turn seems hell bent on a mission to see us all die in untreated pain. Or worse Morphine prescribed when it is too strong (prescriptions for Morphine up 40% since the MHRA screwed up Coproxamol !!).
Given that one of our D4D Poirot’s discovered Maltese Distalgesic, and also my doctor said to look at Portugal where Methadone is given away free so Portugal may be a source of Distalesic, might we all start searching the internt to see if there are any other countries like Malta (but more accessible) that have Distalgesic over-the-counter ???
WOW BOY WOW…CHIEF INSPECTOR POIROT to you if you dont mind …next week i will be visiting 5 countries …i will try and do my detective work and sniff out the DG’s wilst on holiday …
Hey [80 tablets] ,dont ever go down the morphine way..
My latest letter to the Dept of Health received a response which is shifting the blame to local health boards. They say ‘GPs in England (Scotland has own NHS boards) are answerable to Primary Care Trusts for their prescribing decisions’.
They suggest I get in touch with my local board which they also say they see I have already done, so pointless letter.
But I’ll continue to demand that my health board explains the postcode prescribing.
Has anyone ordered recently from Offshore and paid by Western Union?
Postie has not delivered any package to me today, so my wait continues, might be held up in customs so i will have to be patient.
Postie has been and yes has now delivered, but as i unpack them i can’t help getting that feeling of £50 for this is a bit worrying, but what can one do? at least i have some for now.
Really pleased you’ve received Chris. Yep they are expensive but we are kind of stuck at the moment…
I keep emailing Med2u to see if they have actually got anything in stock but I can’t seem to get a reply. Haven’t a clue what’s going on to be honest.
Twinkle, Keep resending those e-mails, i am assuming you are using the gmail address to Jess. They are having trouble getting hold of them but they should at least give you a respnnse.
Twinkle
I know they have Destirol in stock as I just heard from them this morning.
Hope this helps you. :o)
Thanks guys….I have just tried to place an order but you can’t get any further then Kickshaw web site….when it asks you to press update account into shopping basket you can’t get onto paypal it just stops…..
Now……My hero is Derren Brown….I adore the man but Im no Mind reader….I have a funny feeling…I think I know what is going to happen next….
It is becoming clear that the MHRA has negligently handled the coproxamol collapsed Named Patient issue, and now determined to close down any other source of coproxamol for people left in unmedicated pain.
Consequently, the gloves have to come off.
Freedom of Information letters are now being printed off for every one of HM Coroners (England & Wales) and all Procurators Fiscal (Scotland) to examine coproxamol related death certificates and FAI’s etc in order to establish any link and culpability in these deaths of by senior MHRA officials. Hopefully criminal prosecutions of any MHRA official found to have acted criminally to follow.
Maybe then the arrogant bunch at Market Ivory Towers will do what the UK Parliament have asked and reclassify UK coproxamol as a Class A drug with the clinicians having rightful control of prescription.
