A Rare World-Cup Post
England Lost. What a shocker. At some point I’ll remember to care.
However, watching the news last night I was struck by one thing. The Home Secretary was over in Portugal. To watch the match. (bottom paragraph)
David Blunkett. Watching the match? Some mistake, surely.

Homecoming
Well, I’m back, after a weekend of idiocy and weddings. Oh, and Harry Potter 3. (Of which more in a bit) Well, someone had to.
In the meantime, I’m also guesting over at Uborka this week (again), and today contains a small post about How to Swear. There’ll be more, but right now I’m at work and I’ve forgotten my log-on and password. It’s one of those days.
Wedding
Posted: Fri 11 June, 2004 Filed under: General Leave a comment »No, not me, you fools. But this weekend I’m going to be attending a wedding. God only knows why – I’m the +1 on a friend’s invite. It should be fun actually – several of those attending were people I went to school with, or who were in the years close to mine. So it might be fun. Of course, it also might just be hell on earth. But if that’s the case at least it’ll be hell with vodka.
Anyway, updates may be a bit thin on the ground for the weekend, depending on access etc. We’ll see. Have a good weekend though!

None So Blind
So, David Blunkett is ‘mortified’ at the results of yesterdays elections, is he? If so, he’s the only person in the UK. No-one else was surprised at all that Labour lost a shedload of places, and ended up coming third.
David Blunkett … blamed the Iraq war for “damaging” the Labour vote.

Fair enough, I’m sure Iraq’s got something to do with it. But laying it all at the door of that is frankly just fucking blinkered. People are getting uneasy about Blunkett and Blair’s policies about ID cards, a whole variety of strikes and pay disputes, and slowly realising that he’s just another PR-friendly weasel. Still, it’ll be interesting to see whether they actually change anything, or just keep on ramrodding in policies that people don’t like.
Made For Walking
Posted: Fri 11 June, 2004 Filed under: General Leave a comment »Yay, and indeed, Woo. I’m now the posessor of a new pair of Cat boots, following on from last weekend’s sea-walk with the old ones.
I haven’t yet brought myself to bin the old ones, so I may still take a photo of their impressive greyness – and thank the good lord that you don’t have smell-o-net. I don’t know why I haven’t yet chucked ’em out, other than that I’d probably be accused of dumping poisonous waste – or perhaps get a visit from GMP alleging I’m some kind of terrorist with access to chemical weapons. Leave the boots on a train, the carriage would be cleared in no time flat.
Still, the new ones are much the same as the old – I hope I get 3+ years use out of these!
Awards
Posted: Thu 10 June, 2004 Filed under: General, Photography Leave a comment »I’ve been wavering about posting this – in some ways it seems deeply bigheaded, self-centred and many other things. (Oi, you at the back, I heard that “So what’s different to normal?”)
Anyway – I’m going to blither about this now, but it’s one of the few posts that may get deleted if I decide it’s too far up itself for its own good. You’ve been warned.
This week I saw that Panasonic Batteries are sponsoring an Amateur Photographer award. I’ve been playing with camera for a few years now, and (as we all know) got very into digital photography during the run of d4d™. And there’s been quite a lot of good feedback, from a range of sources – people who’ve seen shots I have as my desktop at work and asked where I downloaded them from, people assuming that the framed prints I’ve got have been bought from somewhere, that kind of thing, as well as the people who’ve said here that the ones I publicise can be pretty good. So, bollocks to it, I thought – I’m going to enter.
A maximum of six photos can be uploaded for judging, there’s a monthly prize for – logically – best ones each month, and a big grandy prize type thing in October. Just in time for a certain birthday…
I’ve no idea how they’ll do – having looked at some of the current competitors, I think they may do well, but obviously it’s not down to me. The site itself has some problems, and doesn’t like loading second pages of anything in the gallery, which is a pain.
Only time will tell. But I’m going to keep my fingers crossed anyway.
